Prerequisites
To enrol in the PADI Dive Against Debris® Specialty course, you must:
- Be a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or hold an equivalent certification from another recognised training agency).
- Be at least 12 years old (or 10 years old with a Junior Open Water Diver certification and instructor approval).
Course Outline
During this specialty, you’ll learn how to:
- Safely remove marine debris without damaging the environment.
- Conduct a Dive Against Debris® survey.
- Identify and record different types of underwater litter.
- Submit your findings to the global PADI AWARE Foundation database.
- Understand the impact of marine debris and how divers can help protect our oceans.
Completing this specialty also brings you one step closer to achieving the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
Equipment
You’ll use your standard scuba equipment together with:
- Mesh collection bag
- Cutting tool
- Gloves (where appropriate)
- Underwater slate (if required)
Your Zero Limits Diving Instructor will provide guidance on the safe use of all equipment during the cleanup dive.
Getting Started
Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive your PADI Dive Against Debris® learning materials before your training begins.
One of our experienced Zero Limits Diving PADI Instructors will then contact you to schedule your conservation dive and guide you through every step of the specialty.
Practical training is typically completed in 1 day and is usually conducted over weekends, with weekday training available by prior arrangement.
