Prerequisites
To enrol in the PADI Drift Diver Specialty course, you must:
- Be a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or hold an equivalent certification from another recognised training agency).
- Be at least 12 years old.
Course Outline
During this course, you’ll learn how to:
- Plan and prepare for safe drift dives.
- Understand currents and how they affect your dive.
- Perform safe drift dive entries and exits.
- Use specialised drift diving equipment, including surface marker buoys (SMBs), reels, and floats.
- Maintain excellent buoyancy and navigation while drifting.
- Communicate effectively with your buddy and the surface support team.
- Stay together as a team while enjoying the current.
Completing this specialty also brings you one step closer to achieving the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
Equipment
You’ll use your standard scuba equipment together with:
- Surface Marker Buoy (SMB)
- Reel or spool
- Surface signalling devices
- Gloves or hood (where appropriate)
- Additional equipment as recommended for local diving conditions
Your Zero Limits Diving Instructor will explain how to safely use all specialised drift diving equipment throughout the course.
Getting Started
Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive your PADI Drift Diver learning materials before your practical training begins.
One of our experienced Zero Limits Diving PADI Instructors will then contact you to schedule your training sessions and guide you through every step of the course.
Practical training typically takes 1–2 days and is usually conducted over weekends, with weekday training available by prior arrangement.
