Every dive introduces you to incredible marine life—but wouldn’t it be even better if you knew exactly what you were looking at? The PADI AWARE Fish Identification Specialty teaches you how to recognise different fish families and species, making every dive more engaging, educational, and rewarding.

Prerequisites

To enrol in the PADI AWARE Fish Identification Specialty course, you must:

  • Be at least 10 years old.
  • Be a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or hold a higher certification (or an equivalent certification from another recognised training agency).

Course Outline

During two enjoyable dives, you’ll learn how to:

  • Identify local fish families and species.
  • Recognise key characteristics used to identify marine life.
  • Use fish survey techniques and identification strategies.
  • Learn about Project AWARE and how you can help protect aquatic ecosystems.

Completing this specialty also brings you one step closer to achieving the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

Equipment

You’ll use your standard scuba equipment together with:

  • Underwater slate
  • Fish identification guide
  • Underwater camera (optional but recommended)

Your Zero Limits Diving Instructor will show you how to identify marine life and recommend equipment that enhances your underwater observations.

Getting Started

Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive your course learning materials before your practical training begins.

One of our experienced Zero Limits Diving PADI Instructors will then contact you to schedule your dives and guide you through every step of the course.

Practical training typically takes 1–2 days and is usually conducted over weekends, with weekday training available by prior arrangement.
