Confident navigation is one of the most valuable skills a diver can have. The PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty teaches you how to accurately navigate beneath the surface using natural references and a compass, allowing you to explore with confidence and always find your way back.

At Zero Limits Diving, we’ll help you sharpen your underwater awareness, improve your navigation skills, and become the diver everyone wants to follow on every adventure.

Prerequisites

To enrol in the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course, you must:

• Be a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or hold an equivalent certification from another recognised training agency).
• Be at least 10 years old.

Course Outline

During three practical training dives, you’ll learn how to:

• Navigate confidently using natural underwater references.
• Master compass navigation techniques.
• Estimate underwater distances accurately.
• Complete complex navigation patterns with multiple turns.
• Locate submerged objects and positions from the surface.
• Create simple underwater maps.

The first dive of this specialty may also count as an Adventure Dive towards your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Completing this course also brings you one step closer to achieving the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

Equipment

You’ll use your standard scuba equipment together with:

• Underwater compass
• Underwater slate
• Surface marker buoy (SMB)
• Navigation lines and reels (where required)

Your Zero Limits Diving Instructor will teach you how to confidently use each piece of equipment and navigate accurately in a variety of diving conditions.

Getting Started

Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive your PADI Underwater Navigator learning materials before your practical training begins.

One of our experienced Zero Limits Diving PADI Instructors will then contact you to schedule your training dives and guide you through every step of the course.

Practical training typically takes 2 days and is usually conducted over weekends, with weekday training available by prior arrangement.
